Icom's PCR1000 was introduced at the 1997 Dayton Hamvention as a computer-only receiver to compete with the WR-1000i. It had a simple black box design, but was packed with features. It connected to the PC via a serial cable and quickly gained a following. PCR Professional, the first program made for the PCR1000, was written by Jay L. Bray and now supports the PCR100, PCR1500, and PCR2500 receivers.
